About Our High School

The High School of Acts House of Education consists of the Senior Phase (Grade 7 to Grade 9 ) and Further Education an Training or FET (Grade 10 - Grade 12)

Acts High follows the CAPS curriculum and learners graduate with a National Senior Certificate (NSC) at the end of Grade 12. Acts High boasts a fully equipped science and technology lab used for Natural, Physical and Life Sciences. Commerce subjects are most popular at the school and our experienced team of teachers ensure that our teenagers meet their developmental potential and academic goals. Intervention classes are available for English HL, Afrikaans FAL and Mathematics. Extra classes and Winter School is available for all learners in the FET Phase.

In addition to termly outings and school outreaches (Covid-19 permitting), High School learners from Grade 8-11 attend an annual school camp as part of the Life Orientation curriculum. Further leadership, team-building and communication exercises are promoted through STEM Expos, Encounter: Lead like Jesus, and the election of a Grade 12 Student Council. Pastoral mentoring and care is available to our learners to assist them with navigating their way through their teenage years.

WHAT ACTS HIGH HAS TO OFFER

  • Aptitude and Personality testing

    Learners in Gr9 and 12 complete an Aptitude and Personality test to help them chose a career or subject package that is best suited for their personality.

  • Acts Care Program

    Here at Acts House of Education, we inspire, empower and equip our learners for life's challenges through the Word of God. We encourage them in their relationship with God and enable them to find and develop their gifts and talents. Through partnership with Acts Christian Church and the wider community, we provide spiritual Christ-centered programs where our learners are equipped on how to deal with life's challenges using the Word of God, grow in confidence to see themselves the way God sees them and to nurture their distinctive calling in Christ.

  • Educational Psychologist

    Our onsite Educational Psychologist looks after our learners' educational and emotional needs. We provide support for our learners to deal with the challenges of school life - in the classroom and on the field. We aim to improve the learning process and educational success of our learners. The educational psychologist works hand-in-hand with the teachers and parents for the success of the learner.

    • • On referral from the teacher/parent, learners who are identified as experiencing barriers to learning are assessed.
    • • Individualised support programs are tailored made to accommodate difficulties experienced in various domains i.e cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural.
    • • Provide remediation programs to accommodate gaps in Mathematics, spelling, reading and or language delays.
    • • Provide study methods to assist during class tests and exams to encourage better results.
    • • Provide career guidance and subject choice assessment for Grade 9 learners
    • • Assist our teachers by providing in-house training to promote effective learning techniques and programs that are aimed at accommodating learners identified as experiencing barriers to learning.
    • • Assist our parents with guidance and support on how to help their child reach their potential.
  • Robotics and IT Programme

    Learners in High School will be introduced to our Edtech programme, which includes a Robotics/IT Programme. The programmes will be structured as follows for the different grades. This is a non-examination compulsory programme which all learners will attend during classes.

  • Math Olympiad

    All learners in Gr6-12 participate in the annual Wits Math Olympiad.

  • Careers Day

    Learners in Gr9 get the opportunity to listen to speakers from different fields informing them about the industry they are working in. This is linked to the Gr9 subject choice evening.

  • STEM Program

    Learners in Gr7-9 participate in an annual STEM exhibition to promote and emphasize the importance of Math and Science.

  • Google Classroom

    All PowerPoint lessons are posted on this digital platform in order to assist learners who missed lessons due to illness or other reasons.

  • Intervention Classes and Lessons

    All learners at risk in any of the core subjects must complete the intervention program. In the FET Phase intervention is offered in all subjects. Intervention lessons are also posted on Google Classroom in order to help any other learners who want to improve their marks.

  • PowerPoint Lessons

    All lessons are PowerPoint based linked to specific objectives. Learners have access to these lessons through Google Classroom.

  • Learning Styles

    Learners know their individual learning style and lesson plans are structured to accommodate all the different learning styles.

  • Learning Maps

    Learning Maps help learners to focus and summarise important work. Learning Maps also forms part of lesson planning.

ICT Curriculum

In High school our learners start to do more specified learning. Through the course of Gr. 8 - 11 learners will learn C++, Python, HTML and CSS programming languages. They will also learn to practically write code to control hardware on the Arduino IDE platform

Extra Curricular Activities

Acts High offers athletics, soccer, cricket, touch-rugby for boys and girls, netball & chess. The High School DSSL dance team also excels on provincial and national level, and our public speaking and debate team confidently controls a room filled with listeners.

Sports

Believing in holistic education, Acts House of Education has a wide selection of sport activities on offer, creating opportunity for individual growth and team participation. Through excellence in sporting practice, teaching correct skills and encouraging healthy competition, the sports field becomes a place of fun, achievement and preparation for all areas of life. A passion for a sport of their choice encourages physical development, builds confidence and facilitates healthy individual and social engagement. Sports offered at the various levels include: Cricket, Netball, Soccer (Boys’ & Girls’), Softball, Volleyball, Rugby (Boys’ & Girls’) Athletics and Cross Country.

Culture

Cultural activities provide an outlet for the talented and creative learner. They often provide experiences that shape the lives of learners for the future. Learners learn social skills, interdependence, perseverance, freedom of expression and confidence through their cultural activities. They are an extremely important part of the learners' school life. Our learners are encouraged to participate in a variety of cultural activities and clubs and societies which are offered at the School. Cultural activities include: STEM club, Chess club, Debate & Public Speaking club, Photography & Media Club, Drama club, Art.
